| Q:
How is the height of the gate measured? A: You can either specify the measurement of the low point of the arch or the peak of the arch. Our gates are made to order so we will build to suit your preference. Typically an arch top gate is designed so that the low point of the arch aligns with the top of the wall. We recommend allowing for two inches of ground clearance. Q: Can I modify a design I see on your website? A: We can often accommodate design modifications. Let us know what you are looking for and we will work with you in designing your custom gate. |

Q:
What are your standard sizes?
A: We have two standard sizes in privacy gates: 42in wide x 70in high; and 42in wide x 48in high. The frame thickness (rails, stiles and arch) is 1 1/2". Standard sizes are available for most designs. We also have three standard sizes in driveway gates: 10ft wide x 6ft. high; 12ft wide x 6ft high; and 14ft wide x 6ft high. The frame thickness (rails, stiles and arch) is 2 1/8". Q:

| Q:
How do I know that my gate will fit? A: Upon placing your order, the first step in crafting your gate is the design process. We will create a detailed drawing of your gate with dimensions, and submit it for your review via email or fax, whichever you prefer. At this time you can change the look of your gate, or any dimensions, if necessary, and we will revise the design. We will start building your gate only after receiving your full approval of the design. Q: From what type
of wood are the gates built? |

Q:
How will my gate hold up to the environment? A: Western Red Cedar is widely known for its outstanding rot and insect resistance. We always recommend that the wood be sealed with a good quality oil-based stained or exterior paint. Always prime before painting as cedar contains tannins, or reddish brown extractives, that could bleed through an improperly primed surface. Q: How long does it take to build a custom gate? A: Although our lead times change slightly depending on the season, most of our standard thickness wood privacy gates ship within 3 to 5 weeks of ordering and wood and iron gates ship within 4 to 6 weeks of ordering. Driveway gates typically take approximately 5 to 7 weeks to complete. |

| Q:
Will the gate be sanded? A: Yes. We sand both sides of the gate so that it arrives ready to accept stain or a primer/paint topcoat. Q: How is the metal
art protected from rust and corrosion? |

Q:
How should I finish/maintain my gate?
A: We always recommend staining or applying a primer/paint topcoat to seal the gate from the elements. As with other wood products, it should be protected, especially from water absorption and UV damage to promote longevity and structural stability. Excessive water absorption and subsequent drying will cause excessive expansion and contraction. Sealing the pores with a good quality oil based stain will minimize this. In our experience, good oil-based stains typically require reapplication every 2 to 3 years. Pacific Gate Works offers staining and professional paint services if you would like us perform this task for you. We use, and recommend, Sikkens Cetol SRD 250 oil-based stains for cedar products. Cabot also manufactures quality oil-based stains. Pacific Gate Works also offers urethane clear-coating to finish and protect your gate.
